Image can be accessed from the link below. NGC7479, the "Superman Galaxy," is seen through some of our galactic molecular clouds (as are a few other galaxies in the field). It is classed SB(s)c and is a two armed, somewhat distorted galaxy - but not an Arp. Its distance is 80 to 90 million light years. Two other notable galaxies are UGC12300 and UGC12307 - 92 and 160 million light years distant respectively.

The molecular clouds take up the bulk of the field - some of which are designated in the PGCC catalog. There are some quasars and quasar candidates in the field as well - the highest redshift is 3.69 (12.0 billion light years lookback).

Image and details can be accessed at the link below (or by clicking on the NGC7479 crop below). The annotated image has a link below but it can also be accessed from the main image webpage as well. The full FOV image can be accessed from the image webpage and has an image scale of 1.27 arcsec/pixel.

I've never seen "Superman" before. Interesting target. As usual, it's always fun to dive into your annotated views and see everything that's going on in the frame. I love the way some of the galaxies like UGC 12307 are lurking there behind the clouds.

I am always amazed at how much detail you get in a cropped version, especially this time where the crop must be in the range of 80%.

Beautiful picture.

A great galaxy for imaging and you have done a fantastic job. I love the mixed field of molecular clouds and the small superman in the corner.

Thanks Ian. I have done a few other mixed fields like this. It's not a very common field to find. One thing that that you get though is a limited resolution on the galaxies since you have to go with a wider field. I guess I could spend some money and go full frame with double the focal length  .

Thanks BABO. Well, by pixel area the crop is 96%. I could do better on resolution - See above response to Ian.

Thanks starfield. Thanks for looking at the annotation too. It is interesting how those two galaxies found a "clear window" to us.

Awesome image Jim. I'm curious, I've just started annotating my images using the feature in PixInsight but yours look very unique. Are you doing that manually?

Hi Jim. You did a great job on this Superman Galaxy (NGC 7479) image with your ES MN152 telescope. It looks great on both the cropped and full FOV versions. Excellent contrast and details in your capture and the annotated version really maps out the many wonders out there. Thanks for sharing this work with us Jim and congratulations on receiving the well deserved TSS APOD Award today.
