The backup program on my MacBook is called "Time Machine" which is probably similar to your TimeShift.

But, I have never used it (yet)

I think they are, probably, quite similar. Just set it up and forget it. It's an one time job.
I always keep two backups, the newly created, and the previous.
The backup program deletes the older backups automatically.

They'll send my CEM120 back from Germany - probably tomorrow!

They couldn't test it below -5°C, but I hope it'll work fine. They also extended the warranty (even if it's not a car) so that they'll look into it next winter, if it still acts up.

Just paid some bills... Among then the credit card bill. I did buy the ZWO ASI 294 MM Pro Mono, filter wheel, OAG and basic LRGB filters. And a new mat for the sauna.
Does anyone else feel like when you buy using the credit card, as if you had to pay twice?

One of my crabs did a shedding/molt. I also have some copepods that have sprung to life in the tank. Pretty cool to observe in my little self made ocean. Left click the image.

It is very easy. As Juha says: just set it to an external drive (preferably at least 1Tb) which you will only use for TimeMachine and forget. Whenever you plug that external drive in it automatically backs up, and when it has filled the drive it simply deletes the oldest backup. The first backup will take a while, because it backs the whole computer, but after that it just adds whatever has changed. The good thing is that if/when you get a new computer it can drop everything from the old computer into it, again without any stress.

I am not fond of computers (going back to traumatic experiences with early ones when I was at Uni), but even I find it pretty painless...

All the best,

Quite a long wait. I sent my CEM120 for repair Nov 21th 2021 and they sent it back yesterday Feb 15th 2022.
It's not moving yet, but it waits for UPS to pick it up.

The main reason for the delay was testing. They managed to test it at -5°C (23°F), but there were no colder, about -10°C (14°F) days/nights. And now they sent it back, because it's not probable that there were any colder times until next winter.

Just chilling - literally - as the (hopefully) last of the frigid nights ends. Have had two "clear" nights in a row - but with a full moon and 5F temps and snow and ice and having fought the weather last week, I did not go out. Probably was a good thing as the clouds decided to roll in last night. Currently processing imaging from last week. Wifey caught a nasty stomach bug and is resting. Not COVID thank goodness, as we were a bit bolder and actually went out Saturday night with fellow fencing armorers after our Novice Tournament. We had 1 - 2nd place, 2-3rd placers, and one 4th place fencer. So not bad, in a pool of about 120 fencers. Back to work now....

I'm still in Savannah, my 3 day planned visit with my Dad is turning into a long visit.

His health took a turn for the worse, so moving him into assisted living, at least it's in the same complex where he currently lives.

This month has been frustrating for astronomy - only 2 sessions with my 80ED for some lunar observation after I fixed the focuser it now works like a charm :)

So I've started a course on Deep Learning / Neural networks as an addition to my Masters in Digital & Technology Specialist while procastinating on the current module's assessment... :p

Of course, since the weather's rubbish - one has to window-shop at the very least for astro-related stuff. I seem to have identified the "need" for a telescope particularly for quick(ish) lunar and planetary sessions so I've been researching into options and reading probably far more than I should have... Seem to have come to the conclusion that for my budget a 4" ED refractor would be the best choice...

Oh yeah, I upgraded my laptop to Windows 11 - it went well without incident (touch wood).

They said they had to do all adjustments from scratch, and they tested that it worked fine at -5°C. The specified operational temperature limit is -10°C, but -5°C was the coldest weather there.

Not done any imaging since 2021. I packed all my kit up and went to stay with a friend for the one clear night we had last New Moon he lives in Bortle 6 I live in Bortle 8. But the clouds hung around for too long and my target disappeared before I got enough data.

Now stuck at home in Bortle 8 and it's galaxy season, so dount I will get anything done for a while yet.

Then we have had a series of very windy Storms which haven't finished yet. Lots of damage to homes and observatories and trees falling on cars and houses.

Too bad, the new snowfall is starting, and after that the snow shoveling, before it's even possible to set it up.
Another question is if its worth it due to the clouds...

Hmm, by the weather forecasts, not this month. Hopefully early next month.
Chances to take a peek at Orion are gone for this year (too). (Sigh.)

Got a hockey puck (adapter) to use on top of my Twilight-1 tripod. Couldn't mount my SW AZ5 on the pod since the pod has one of those post-thingies on top. Puck has a notch that fits around the post, AZ5 screws onto a 3/8 bolt on the top of the puck, and Bazinga!

Now if it would clear up, I could test my 102ED on it. The AZ5 combined with my Manfrotto 475B is a bit too shaky when focusing the 102. OTOH, the TW-1 combo is transforming from a grab-n-go to a grab-n-lug. We shall see...

If this doesn't work, I'll have to order a SkyTee or something.

Another question is if its worth it due to the clouds...

Hmm, by the weather forecasts, not this month. Hopefully early next month.
