NGC 6231

#1

Post by KingClinton »

Had some clear sky from about 22H30 on Friday 24 May 2019.
After setting the scope out and letting it cool I headed out.

I decided to sketch NGC 6231 using my XT8 and a 15mm eyepiece.
From my urban backyard Durban, South Africa.
Moon 56.8% illuminated at approximately 7 degrees above the horizon.
NGC 6231 was at approximately 72 degrees above horizon.

I decided to try something new with this sketch, it's something I have seen on another forum.
I took the original sketch.
The attachment Cropped-and-orient-687X445.jpg is no longer available
Then from there I put it into star tools and did a bin, this gave it a slightly more boxy shape, then I used a mask and the heal tool to round out the stars properly.
The attachment Run 4.jpg is no longer available
Now I used the various star masks and the colour module to add colur, after which I added a few star spikes for effect.
It certainly brings the sketch to life and gives it a photo realistic feel.
I like it, hope you do too!

Somehow I messed up the image attachments so only one loaded rather than the three.
So here they are.

Second after star tools and rounding the stars

And finally the full colour with spikes for that added effect.

This was a great post Clinton with your transitional stages to the image. In the third one my eyes exploded.
Wonderful Clinton.
Thank you my friend.
