Masuyama Eyepieces

#1

Post by Lady Fraktor »

Astro Hutech is showing a full line of new Masuyama eyepieces.
No pricing at the moment but hopefully they will update and be in stock soon.

These are superb eyepieces which created the multiple pseudo-Masuyama that were available from almost all major manufacturers.
Though they are often referred to as Plossl, they are actually a variation of the Zeiss Astroplanar designed in 1955.
Meade labelled theirs as Super Plossl and the term is still used as marketing filler even today.

From all of the variations of pseudo I have tried I found the Antares Elite to be the best and still have 2 sets.
Hopefully these new version Masuyama will be as good as the original.
If so I will be adding a few more eyepieces to the collection!

Some people on a different forum really make what is left of my brain boil...
For whatever reason Astro Hutech has claimed that the MOP on the eyepiece body stands for Masuyama Ortho Plossl.
People have debated what MOP does stand for with no actual decision but it has been stamped on many different brands of eyepieces and accessories since the 1950. Meade, Towa, Vixen, etc.
Well meaning people providing wrong information...
