Hi everyone,

I was going through my Messier astrophotography photos today, when I made an interesting discovery. Today, I realized I have photographed 60 Messier objects! I am more than halfway done with the Messier list, and I didn't even realize it!

As a result, I decided to build on my previous 40 photo Messier AP challenge success, and attempt the 80 photo Messier AP challenge. I have 20 more to go already!

I'll let you all know how it goes, and I will post pictures when the challenge is completed.

20 more to go!

Jared

How did you get on Jared?

Inspired by @Mike Q's enthusiasm I might have a go at the next 40 targets!

That's excellent Mike!

Could you put a list together and post it in the Messier Visual Reports Section please.

I see Profile bling heading your way!

Wow, I forgot I was doing this challenge. I actually had a computer glitch accident, and I lost a majority of my astrophotography photos. I need to start over.

It’s OK, though. I got a new telescope last Christmas, and I wanted to start over anyway so I can update all my photos.

I have the following:

M1-2, M13, M27, M29-30, M34-40, M42-43, M45, M57, M71-72, and M82.

20 total. 60 more to go.

Feel free to start the AP Messier Challenge again with your new Telescope if you want to Jared but your previous submitted images are still here:

There are over 80 images posted, did you manage to image 80 different Messier targets or are there two images of some of them? If you have imaged 80 then you have already earned the M80 Photo Award.

We look forward to seeing you new images.

Graeme

Actually, when I went up to North Idaho in April 2023, I met @JayTee and we did a session together of Astrophotography. He told me that in his own opinion, some of the photos needed to be done better if I were to receive the award. I think some of the ones he mentioned were specifically the Virgo galaxies.

Regardless, I feel like I should start over with the new telescope. My old telescope is not powerful enough to see certain objects, my new one is. Maybe I’ll update my photos and get better pictures of all of them.

You can add the award if you want, but I’m still gonna start over with the new telescope.

The Messier AP Challenge Award is for recognition of the recipient's hard work and acknowledgement of the effort made to capture the Messier Targets. It is not a judgement of astrophotography skill.

Well done and congratulations on the Award of your M80 Messier AP Challenge Profile Flair.

And we're still looking forward to seeing what you can do with the new telescope!

Regards

Graeme

Well, I completely misunderstood the challenge then.

Thank you so much for pointing that out, and thanks for the award! I’ll definitely post new pictures as I get them.
