Re: Vixen ED81S f/8
Ok, here I think is what is right but not certain:
If I use a 0.67 reducer/flattener, then I use this set-up:
TSNikon (T ring), to VI2954 (M60 to T2) to reducer/flattener to scope?
Do I need any tube or spacer for this set-up?
If I don't use a flattener, all I need is a 2 Inch Prime Focus Camera Adapter to connect directly with the scope? Seems it should the 2.0", not 1.25"?
And do I need any spacer or tube for this second set-up?
Thanks.

Re: Vixen ED81S f/8
For the Vixen ED81S, what extension tubes do I get? I believe they should be 60mm thread to screw in both ends. I see tubes named M42x0.75, M48x0.75, 2"...but nothing indicating 60mm.Lady Fraktor wrote: ↑Tue Nov 15, 2022 7:49 pm Every person I know that does AP has spare spacers and extension tubes, so probably a good idea to purchase 1 or 2
Thanks.

You will have to find a tube to match your camera adapter threads to the reducer, from the reducer to the focuser.
You will likely get better answers if you post this question in the

Re: Vixen ED81S f/8
Just got all the parts but haven't used it yet. It's hard to find answers from shops that should know, like Vixen itself here in the US. Waiting on a few others to respond, including Te4lesop. The manual shows an M60 tube. My adapter goes from the T2 ring to 60mm, and the flattener/reducer is also 60mm.Lady Fraktor wrote: ↑Wed Nov 23, 2022 4:27 pm The link I posted before shows a overall length of 178mm (177.7) not including the camera adapter so a good starting point I imagine.

But I'm having trouble finding a set of M60 extension tubes that allows them to be combined for multiple lengths. And no 1 seems to know the back focus point for the flattener/reducer I have. I have the combined version, not a separate flatterner and reducer.
Anyway, will try the

They have just started being the NA distributor so may take a bit of time to get up to speed.

Waiting to hopefully hear back from 3 places (including american scientific and Teleskop and Vixen Japan). In the meantime, still a few questions:Lady Fraktor wrote: ↑Wed Nov 23, 2022 4:53 pm Explore Scientific is a Vixen distributor not Vixen itself so most of their employees have probably not used any of the Vixen equipment.

1) it's hard to find m60 rings and tubes to get the right back-focus. With a crop sensor, would I lose anything if I use M42 tubes/rings/adapters? I think the image circle is 44mm. Not certain if that's relevant.
2) I can't find a flattener except from an expensive kit, and I already have a flattener/reducer combination unit for shooting at 420mm. Do I need a flattener at 625mm? Can't seem to find 1 unless I buy a kit.
Thanks.

On the scope side, the focuser is 2" M60. What is the thread on this flattener? Do I need an adapter if not M60?Lady Fraktor wrote: ↑Fri Nov 25, 2022 6:48 pm I imagine this flattener may work

If you look at the Vixen kit I posted above it gives all of the lengths/ diameters/ threads, you should be able to use it as a guide.

It doesn't give the thread on the scope side. It just says 2". How can I know if it will screw into the scope? It needs to be M60, right? My reducer has M60 and it screws it properly.Lady Fraktor wrote: ↑Fri Nov 25, 2022 7:18 pm When on the description page click on the Technical Data tab, all the information is there.

I saw that, but it just says it's 2", and a filter thread. What is filter thread? Doesn't it have to be M60?Lady Fraktor wrote: ↑Fri Nov 25, 2022 7:34 pm It tells you twice actually

Re: Vixen ED81S f/8
The focuser is 2" which is actually 50.8mm. A M60 would be to large to fit inside. I believe the only part that has a M60 thread is on the camera adapter though I may be wrong.
Threaded for filters means that you can screw a 2" filter onto the end of the barrel before sliding it into the focuser drawtube.

My reducer has these specs: Connection on telescope side: M60 male thread; camera side connection: M60 female threadLady Fraktor wrote: ↑Fri Nov 25, 2022 7:47 pm I believe you are confusing yourself with numbers.

I screw that directly into the scope. So the scope has to take M60, right, for this reducer to fit?
In the end, I just want to know what size thread is the male side of a flattener so it will fit into the scope. Some have M48. I thought if I got 1 with M42, I can then use my adapter ring to go from M42 to M60, then into the scope.
Thanks.
