Explore Scientific 82deg 14mm is a good quality

Meade UWA will be also my preference over ES82. Optically they are equally good, but with Meade you get more eye relief.

Re: The 1X / 2X / 3X Magnification Protocol for eyepiece set selection
Since there is always a trade off for wide angel optics, one has to developed their own preferences. I have tried ultra wide EPs but anything above 72 deg just doesn't work for me.25585 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 10:04 pm What 1x,2x,3x needs to consider is the magnification factor effect on FoV through an eyepiece. A 32mm Plossl may be great as a 1x (say), but by 2x a Plossl is getting hard for manual tracking scopes, & 3x needs tracking.
So alongside 1x, 2x, 3x for magnification, non-tracking relaxed viewing needs an AFOV guide. Any suggestions?

Re: The 1X / 2X / 3X Magnification Protocol for eyepiece set selection
My main set doesn’t quite follow your protocol, but I would value your opinion. In my TV 102 (which as I am sure you know) is 8.6. I use a 32 mm TV plossl at x27, a 13mm Delite at x67 and a 8mm Radian giving me x110. If I have the seeing I go to x176 with a 5 mm Delite.

Re: The 1X / 2X / 3X Magnification Protocol for eyepiece set selection
My night skies here are so bright, the background in the eyepiece is almost white until I reach 100x and more, so the higher magnifications get used a lot.
So the 1X/2X/3X idea is merely a way for an inexperienced telescope owner to at least have on hand 3 eyepieces which will be usable and yet yield different magnifications for objects of different sizes.
Personally, I go all the way to 8X with eyepieces, but I also carry around a heavy case with 13 eyepieces.
Eventually, as the observer gains experience, more eyepieces will be acquired.
Currently using a 12.5" dob and a 4" apo refractor
