Never meant for astronomy the nose piece is almost .965" , have to wrap layers of plastic tape to get .965 adapter to fit snugly. Scope Stuff has a nice brass ring compression 1.25" one. Range is 7-21mm , field of view looks to be 50 degrees at low power to 65 degrees at hi. You have to use a Barlow to get planetary powers. Mine is a Baader Hyperion with an extension tube to to give 2.5x. So the combo gives 8.4-2.8mm.
Both together are close to TV Delos and Pentax xw views. A 4mm Delite was better but only a little bit. The Delite is also a little bit better than the TV and xw. The Nikon zoom is small and light and only have to twist 90 degrees to go thru full range. Looked at Jupiter and Saturn. Saturn is kind of bland, but the wealth of details on Jupiter made it easy to see differences between eyepieces.
It is amazing to me that we can push these spotting scope lenses way beyond their intended use and they still perform better than the zooms designed for astronomy. You never heard of anyone saying that the Baader zoom was anywhere near the TV or xw standard.
