ETX-125

#1

Post by Astroglide65 »

Hello everybody,
For some reason I've been interested in the Meade ETX-125 EC, I'm looking for a second scope that's more suited for packing in the camper and doing a little AP. The mount allows Polar Alignment but can a guide scope be mounted too? Is this a good/bad or mediocre choice? Sometimes I use my ZWOASI224MC and Sharpcap Pro, sometimes I use my Sony a6000 for single shot long exposures like 3 to 4 minutes.

Any of you peeps have one of these? How do you like it and what can you do with it?
Thanks,
Dano

These are nice telescopes, great for planetary, lunar, double stars viewing.
Being a Maksutov design they have a very narrow field of view so not suited for AP if you are wanting to image dim DSO or nebula.
Some nice refractors, eyepieces, mounts and related equipment
The only culture I have is from yogurt

This is a wonderful planetary / lunar / double star scope. And it will do a decent job of imaging the planets and the Moon, but that's where it ends.

The mount comes with a built-in wedge so you can get an EQ-N/S alignment. It will be imprecise at best, also, there is no facility to attach a guide scope.

This scope has a specific design function, what you would like it to do is well outside that function.

Cheers,
JT
