Any rerports on Pons-Brooks this weekend?

#1

Post by broadwater »

I know it is reaching perihelion this weekend, but haven't seen any reports. Too cloudy here for me to take a crack at it. I saw it late last month, but was underwhelmed.

For those who are interested, there was an article in the NY Times about it last week which included a description of it as "exceptional."

Any other reports?

Too cloudy here as well; it's really been lousy weather!

We have been following the details of Pons Brooks for a few weeks in our regular Marshall's Night Sky This Week topics. And this week the comet reaches it's brightest magnitude but it is very low on the horizon and very close to the Sun, so it will be a challenging target.

C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) is the one to watch now.
