New Image: M8 in SHO

#1

Post by Gerald_db »

My first attempt at M8 in narrowband and from a B1 dark sky site at new moon.

[Edit: Not my first narrowband but the first narrowband of this subject. Previously with a modded Canon more than 2 years ago]

With the ASI2600MM running happily at below -20°C thanks to the -4°C night temperature noise was not an issue.

Processed in PI with a tweak in Lightroom Classic.

Processed starless and then RGB stars added back at end.

+1 on that.

When I clicked on it, the image really jumped out of the screen at me!

Gerald, I really like this image! I always go a little "oo aaah" about good images of M8, especially being a good target for us learneres. I particularly like the open cluster within the nebulae.

I think I am back where you were 2 years ago and then some, DSLR OSC + PS. As light pollution increases where I live, my sense is that your direction to mono will be mine at some stage, though I have quite a bit to learn before then.

Cheers, Phil
