Re: John Dobson / building telescopes
He talked about his "cosmology": a type of continuous-creation understanding (which fitted with his former status as a Buddhist monk).
He said he was kicked out of the Monastery because he kept sneaking out to show people the stars (the start of his "Sidewalk astronomers"), and refused to stop when ordered to do so by the head of the monastery.
The guy he was staying with, who was quite fit and in his early 70's at the time, said he was exhausted trying to keep up with him.
Binos: Steiner Wildlife XP 10x26, Swarovski 8x30 Habicht, Zeiss SFL 8x40, Vanguard Endeavour 10.5x45, Fuji FMTR-SX 10x50, Tak 22x60, Orion Resolux 15x70
Eyepieces: way too many (is that possible?), but I do like my TV 32mm plossl, 13mm Nagler T6, 27mm Panoptic and 3-6mm Nagler zoom, plus Fujiyama 18mm and 25mm orthos and Tak 7.5mm LE

Yes, he did mention a bit that he had a problem with the big bang theory, which opened some eyes if it did not ruffle a few feathers.DeanD wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 3:14 am He was a great character. He visited us in South Australia when in his mid-late 80's. I remember he started his lecture by charging up and own the aisles (up steep stairs) and throwing sheets of notes into the air for people to grab. He then bounced up to sit on the bench at the front of the theatre.
