M31 Andromeda Seestar S50

Post by Ben Cartwright SASS »

Tough night last night, wind gusts to 21 mph from the west right where my scope is set up, finally after 8 pm they started to slow down. Almost full moon.
Downloaded 3.68 and suddenly my old tablet with 2 gig of ram is working again but compared to the new one I bought with 8 gig is it slow!.
Did 2 1/2 hours of imaging to get 64 minutes of subs. Basically it is little bit better than 1 sub for every 3 the S50 did, previous update it seemed to be 1 in 4, also last night even without the mosaic I was getting star trails every other exposure, but when I looked at the wind speed it was anywhere from 10 mph to 20 mph so it is understandable.
First image is the mosaic as processed on the S50 with Denoise and then doing the Brightness, Contrast and Saturation and saving. Second is taking that image and tweaking it in Lightroom.

2 1/2 hours for 64 minutes of subs in a Bortle 7.5 area, 300 feet from a major mall on the Automile in Norwood south of Boston.

Tough night Ben!! Many have reported only about 33% efficiency (Total Exposure Time/Total Imaging Time) in capturing images in the Framing (mosaic) mode. I checked the data from two of my mosaics and the efficiency was 40% on one and 47% on the other. Maybe it depends on the target location in the sky?

In any event, nice capture.
