Re: Celestron Heavy Duty Manual Alt Az with tripod

Another fun use of the mount is as a support for the 15x70's. I purchased the Celestron tripod adapter for binos last week, as a result it can be used in a steady and vibration free manner.

The only problem is the short height of the tripod compared to a standing observer, so I bought a 12" to 25 ...

Sounds helpful. I took the path to the top of Mt. Whitney in 2010 (14,495') and had no problems so presuming one is in decent shape it's probably OK. :icon-smile:

Re: Barcroft High altitude star party

The dates for the annual Barcoft High altitude star party near White Mountain Peak in California have been set between 8/31 and 9/5 2024. At an altitude of 12,450 feet and Bortle 1 skies it simply cannot be beat. Cost to attend is $90 per night. In the daytime visitors can enjoy the nearby ancient ...

Re: First night with the new scope

Good start to your astronomical hobby. I agree with many of the above that one or two eyepieces would be useful to add to your collection - not Kellners. Plossls or Erfles can fit the bill in faster than f/6 scopes, plus some of the newer hybrid models...look at useful websites such as HighPoint ...

Re: Moon and Mars occultation.

Great session RitcheyPark and well deserving of today's VROD for your descriptions of the experience. I got out as well and moving a few hundred feet from the house I was able to spot the rising moon above the trees. Unfortunately it was mostly cloud obscured so that meant Mars was invisible. I ...
